Sri Lanka — Checking What a Trade Costs Before You Send It
The order in which the cost of a position becomes visible: the spread on the quote, the commission on the account, then the overnight swap once the position stays open.
Open Exness Account →The cost of an Exness position becomes visible in three places, in this order. The spread is the gap between Bid and Ask on the quote and it applies the moment the order fills. The commission depends on the tier: $0 on Standard and Pro, up to $3.50 per side per lot on Raw Spread, from $0.20 per side on Zero. The overnight swap only appears once the position survives the daily rollover, and it disappears on a swap-free account.
The cost check, in the order it appears on screen
- Open the symbol in the platform and read the Bid and Ask: the gap between them is the spread, and it is the first cost the position carries.
- Check which account the order will go to. Standard and Pro carry $0 commission, so the spread is the whole entry cost.
- On Raw Spread and Zero, add the commission to the spread before comparing: Raw Spread charges up to $3.50 per side per lot, Zero from $0.20 per side.
- Convert the spread into money before sizing the order: the margin check page does the arithmetic from lot size and pip value.
- If the position will stay open past the daily rollover, look up the overnight swap for that symbol next, unless the account is swap-free.
- Exness charges no deposit fee and no withdrawal fee, and there is no inactivity fee, so nothing is added between trades.
Where people read the cost wrong
The first trap is comparing a headline spread on one tier against a live spread on another. Raw Spread and Zero quote a tighter spread precisely because part of the cost has moved into commission, so a comparison that stops at the spread always makes them look cheaper than they are for the size actually traded.
The second trap is the hour. The same symbol quotes a different spread at the daily rollover than it does mid-session, and a cost estimate taken at a quiet hour will not describe an order sent at a busy one. The measured spread page records the reading hour by hour, so the estimate can be taken at the hour that matters.
The overnight decision is a separate decision
Swap is not part of the entry cost and does not appear until the position crosses the daily rollover. On the triple-swap day the nightly amount is applied three times to cover the weekend, so a position opened before it carries three nights of cost instead of one.
If overnight interest is the thing to avoid rather than the thing to budget for, the swap-free setting removes it on eligible instruments. The spread and any account commission stay exactly as they were, so the entry cost of the trade does not change at all.
Reading the cost of one position
- Open the symbol and read Bid and Ask. The difference is the spread, quoted in pips on forex and in points elsewhere.
- Check the digits in the symbol specification before converting: a five-digit forex quote counts points, and a point is a tenth of a pip.
- Multiply the spread by the pip value for the volume you plan. That is the entry cost in money, and it is paid whether the trade wins or loses.
- Add the commission if the account is Raw Spread or Zero. On Standard and Pro there is nothing to add - the spread is the whole entry cost.
- Decide whether the position will be held overnight. If it will, look up the swap for that symbol and multiply by the number of nights.
- Add nothing else. Exness charges no deposit fee, no withdrawal fee and no inactivity fee, so the account carries no cost between trades.
Costs charged by a payment provider are separate from anything Exness charges and are shown at the moment of the request.
